EGRC 2007 Specialty

Best In Specialty, Best Veteran, & Best Veteran In Sweepstakes : CH Toasty’s Sting Like A Bee, OS, SDHF, “Beezer”

“Beezer” and handler Haley Whitcomb made EGRC history with this win, with “Beezer” becoming EGRC’s 1st repeat BOB Specialty winner and Haley becoming EGRC’s 1st repeat BOB Specialty handler!!! “Beezer” also took BV under Judge Nancy Talbot & BVISS under Judge Berna Hart Welch.

It’s been said that “Youth Will Be Served” but on March 9, 2007, 10-year-old CH Toasty's Sting Like A Bee, OS, SDHF, “Beezer” wouldn’t hear of it, taking Best In Specialty honors from the 10-12 Veteran class!!! “Beezer” becomes our Club’s first repeat winner, not only going BOB this year under Judge Ms. Nancy Talbot, but also having previously won, as a Special, under Judge Col. Jon Chase in 2004.  “Beezer” had a great day, also winning Best Veteran, and Best Veteran in Sweepstakes, the THIRD YEAR in a row he has taken home these two particular trophies.  “Beezer” is owned and bred by EGRC members Pam and Jerry Oxenberg, and was handled in the Veterans’ ring by Pam.

Haley Whitcomb handled “Beezer” in Breed.  This talented young handler is also no stranger to the EGRC winner’s circle, having the distinction of having handled the BOB winner at our Inaugural Specialty, back in 2003, with CH Honeykyst Butterfly Kisses, “Promise.” Haley is presently attending community college in Florida and she now becomes EGRC’s first BOB handler to repeat! Guess “Youth Will Be Served” after all!

Pam couldn’t handle “Beezer” in the transition from Veterans to Breed because she had also brought her Special, CH Toasty’s Treasure Island, “Treasure.” It certainly was a big day for Team Toasty as “Treasure” took Best Opposite Sex to “Beezer!”

“Treasure” goes BOS to “Beezer” under Judge Nancy Talbot, with owner/breeder/handler Pam Oxenberg.  “Treasure” also had a good month, later taking BOB at the GRCA Western Regional in Texas!

Two JAM’s were also awarded.  The first went to one of the male Specials, CH Goodtime’s Non-Stop To Rio, “Rio,” owned by Kathy and Lisa Smith and Jane Myers, and handled by Jane.  The second JAM went to a Veteran, CH Gorca’s Marsielle, “Kailani,” owned by Laura and Chris Topping, and shown by Laura.  “Kailani” earned her JAM from the 7-10 Veteran Bitch class. Veterans “Kailani” and “Beezer” showed everyone that though their faces may have touches of grey, they still have what it takes!

He also qualified in Open B in obedience.  He had a memorable day!

At our EGRC Specialty, Veteran Sweepstakes became a family affair.  Toasty’s Alligator Alley, “Alli,” owned by EGRC members David and Linda Rappaport, took Best Opposite Sex in Veteran Sweepstakes from the 7-10 Bitch class, as her sire, “Beezer,” went Best Veteran in Sweepstakes from the 10-12 Dog class.

Taking home a heckuva lot of loot was MACH Bridgton’s I’m The Only One UDX3 MH RA, “Tigger,” owned, bred and handled by Nancy Clinchy, of Navarre, FL.

Approximately 15% of our obedience entrants this year were from out-of-state, some from as far away as New York and Massachusetts. They took home their fair share of rosettes and we hope they had a wonderful time, as we were happy they chose to come down to sunny South Florida.  Our ads paid off!  For this show, our Club also chose to award New Title rosettes for the first time, as a special memento to exhibitors whose dogs earned new obedience and/or rally titles.  FOURTEEN new titles were earned that day! Congratulations to the new titleholders!

As usual, a show of this size doesn’t just happen overnight and many people need to be thanked.  A big thank you needs to go, first and foremost, to Chair Heidi Miller for all the hard work she put into planning this Specialty for nearly a year.  Thank you Heidi! Surrounding Heidi was a talented show committee composed of EGRC members, former Board members, and the current Board.  Heidi’s key mentor was past Show Chair and current EGRC President Pat Andrews.  Thank you Pat and thank you Show Committee!

Let’s also thank our stewards.   They worked very hard all day.  It is because of people like them that EGRC is able to host a Specialty each year.  Thanks also to the EGRC members and volunteers who helped make baskets and staff the raffle table. The $1600 received in raffle ticket sales was an EGRC record!!!

We need to also thank our gracious panel of judges who gave of their time to come to our show and be a part of our event: Breed and Junior Showmanship Judge Ms. Nancy Talbot, Sweepstakes and Veteran Sweepstakes Judge Mrs. Berna Hart-Welch, Obedience Judges Mrs. Mary J. Happersett and Mr. William N. (Bill) Dillard and Rally Judge Mr. Robert R. Withers.  They were an integral part of our successful team.

Many thanks to Obedience/Rally Chair Michele Panetta who took these photos at the show.  It was a lot of fun that day for both dogs and owners alike!  We tried our best to feature photos from different venues as well as winners from the various classes.
